Keep Your New Years Resolutions

It is now Mid-March and some of us might have lost a little bit of our “New Year New Me” mojo. Don’t worry it’s not too late to get it back. As if watching the models frolic around the beach in the Victoria’s Secret Swim Special airing at the end of the month isn’t motivation enough to tone up, Spring and Summer weather is just around the corner.

Here are some easy steps that you can add to your routine that will keep you looking and feeling your best all year long.

 Healthy Motivation

It is extremely important to make sure that your goal is realistic. You shouldn’t cut out everything that you love from your diet. You should enjoy what you are putting into your body, and if you are ultimately feeling deprived you are just setting yourself up to fail.

  • Drink Water!
  • Portion Control is key.
  • Allow for 1 Cheat Day a week so that you won’t feel the need to gorge, and ruin all of your progress.
  • When you grocery shop try to stay on the outside of the store where most of the fresh food is located. When you start going down the isles, that’s where you’re going to find all of the unhealthy and highly processed foods.

You can do it!

Be Kind to Your Skin

It’s summertime and we all want that sun-kissed glow, but at what price? Sure, it’s nice to be able to confidently wear shorts or a dress and not blind innocent bystanders on the street with your pasty skin that has followed you around since winter, but there has to be a healthy alternative to the sun damage that your skin will go through if you are soaking up the sun all summer. So, what is the alternative you may ask?

First and foremost, before I discuss the products that will give you an effortless glow we need to discuss daily routines that you should form this summer not only to protect your skin from sun damage but also to keep your skin looking young and fresh.

In the summertime you shouldn’t be using heavy pore-clogging foundations. I would stay away from liquid foundations all together unless you are using a BB Cream or tinted moisturizer. I’m going to discuss summer makeup tips in greater detail in a separate post, so for now I am just going to go over pre-makeup routines.

Step One: Exfoliate. You need to make sure that you are clearing any dry skin that if left alone could cause your makeup to look flakey and discolored.

Step two: Cleanse.  You always need to make sure that you’re starting each day with a fresh canvas. If you don’t wash your face, the makeup that you wore from the day before will linger in your pores and cause you to breakout, and no one wants that.

Step three & four: Hydrate & Protect. Always start your makeup routine with a moisturizer that has SPF 25 or above. (Neutrogena Healthy Defense daily moisturizer with SPF 45 is a great moisturizer that won’t break the bank.)

Now the fun part, how can you get the bronze glow that you desire without spending hours under the burning sun?

I personally was hesitant about using sunless tanners at first because I was scared of the streaks, and I didn’t want to resemble a cheeto. Much to my surprise, some of these sunless tanners actually worked! Just like my pre-makeup tip, you’ll need to make sure to exfoliate your body before using the sunless tanner as well.

My personal favorite is St. Tropez self tan bronzing mousse. You’ll need to buy the tanning mitt when using a the mousse, but it’s worth it for a streak-free tan.

  • St. Tropez: $30-$45
  • Tanning mitt $6.50

Jergens natural glow products are also fabulous.  The Jergens natural glow mousse is a great alternative to the St. Tropez mousse if you are on a budget, but I would still recommend buying some kind of tanning  mitt for application. Jergens also has a Natural Glow lotion + Firming daily moisturizer option. This moisturizer has a slight shimmer.

All three of these tanning products are time saving, healthy alternatives that your skin will thank you for later!
